FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
Dear Members,
It is with profound gratitude and an all-encompassing heart of love that I want to thank you for an extraordinary anniversary. Words are so inadequate when it comes to telling you how much this anniversary blessed Sister Jones and me. First of all, there was such an outpouring of love. It was certainly a “And we beseech you, brethern, to know them which labor among you, and are over you and the lord, and admonish you; And to esteem them very highly in love with their works sake” (1 Thess. 5:12,13) caring event that was taken from God’s playbook (the Bible). Your love for your pastor and his family was (and is) evident in every facet of the anniversary. (You do know how to honor your pastor.) I must tell you, the outpouring of love the caring spirit, exemplified by the membership, has humbled this pastor. I am like King David in 2 Samuel 7:18: “Then went King David in, and sat before the Lord, and he said, Who am I, O Lord God? and what is my house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?” That, dear people, is your pastor. Who am I, O Lord God, that Friendship has done all this for me and my family?
And then there is the creativity in the element of the anniversary (was I impressed). A New York City, Madison Avenue firm, comes in a distant second to the works of this anniversary committee. To the lovely, caring members of this committee and to the entire membership that they represent, thank you for an outstanding, without comparison, 50th Anniversary. To God be the glory.
Pastor J. Amos Jones
FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK
After this manner therefore pray you: “Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.” (Matthew 6:9) The phrase “Our Father which art in heaven” indicates that God is not only majestic and holy, but also personal and loving. Our Heavenly Father is the consummate father, and our earthly fathers have a perfect example of fatherhood. On today as we honor and celebrate our fathers, we praise God for those divine virtues He has placed in them . How inclusive are the duties of a father. The first duty of a father is to love his children. In Genesis 37:4, we see a love that has been tainted with partiality: “And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably unto him.” Contrast that love with the love in 1 John 4:16: “And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.” When the matter of love is settled, the manifestation of fatherly duties is apparent. Duties like command, instruct, guide and warn, train, rebuke, restrain, punish, chasten, nourish, supply needs, and provoke not. In a summary fashion, good fathers bring up their children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. We thank God for, and we celebrate the good fathers of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church.
Happy Father’s Day
Pastor J. Amos Jones
