The family is of divine creation. “So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them. And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth” (Genesis 1:27-28a). In as much as the family is of divine creation, Father God sets the rules that governs it. The family begins with marriage. “Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder” (Matthew 19:6). According to Exodus 20:12, there must be unity of parents. We need only to look at the family of Isaac and Rebekah to see what happens when the parents are not unified in their parenting. God has placed the husband as the head of the family, not the boss, rather “the source of”. Because man was created first, the woman derives her existence from man, as man does from Christ, and Christ from God, (1 Corinthians 11:3). The principle there is submission, which is the key element in the smooth functioning of any family. Submission is mutual commitment and cooperation. Thus, God calls for submission among equals. Likewise, there is subordination of children (Ephesians 6:1-4).
Dear ones, on a spiritual level, we who are believers are members of the family of God. “For all who are allowing themselves to be led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.” (Romans 8:14 AMP). When a person becomes a Christian, he/she gains all the privileges and responsibilities of a child in God’s family. Think about it folks, as believers, we are in the family of God. Just as is with our natural parents, “Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right” (Ephesians 6:1 NIV). Hear Brother Peter in Acts 5:29: “Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.” That’s it folks, we now are heirs of God, and joint heirs with Christ. Be blessed as you are blessed in the family of God.
