Let me ask you a question and a follow-up. What is it that motivates you? That gets you up in the morning and out of the door? Could it be money or power? Maybe a combination of the two? Be careful how you answer. Someone will say, “But Brother Pastor, you know what the Bible says about money.” As a matter of fact, I do know what the Holy Writ has to say about money. (1 Tim. 6:10) “For the LOVE (capitalization for emphasis) of money is the root of evil, which, while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced them through with many sorrows.” Dear Ones, please know that money in itself is not inherently wrong, but rather it is the inordinate desire for money that is problematic. Hear the wise man: “A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry, but money answereth all things” (Ecel. 10:19). It is the Lord Himself that gives us power to carry out His will in the earth realm (Acts 1:8). It is the unbridled lust for power as demonstrated by James and John, the sons of Zebedee, that caused Jesus to teach them a lesson on humility. “And whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant” (Matt. 20:27). I truly hope that you are motivated by your relationships. Both your vertical and your horizontal relationships. I join the Psalmist who declares: “While I live will I praise the Lord: I will sing praises unto my God while I have any being” (Ps. 146:2).
The writer of the book of Hebrews tells us to: “Let brotherly love continue” (13:1). Relationships are what gets this Pastor going. How about you? What is your source of motivation?
